Request to become a Seafarers' Welfare Ambassador

For many of the world’s trade ports, there is little or no local welfare information available to seafarers who may never have visited the port before. Therefore, Seaferers’ Welfare Ambassadors are needed to share their local knowledge for visiting seafarers. This is particularly the case in ports where there are no welfare boards. Port Visitor aims to improve the information gathered about the services for seafarers around the world and make this readily available to seafarers through its port directory search.

Seafarers’ Welfare Ambassadors work with port owners or authorities to represent the interests of visiting seafarers, gather information and help the International Port Welfare Partnership create welfare boards in port. MLC, 2006 4.4 mandates that the formation of Welfare Boards should be encouraged to review and improve access to welfare services.

If you are a key member of the port community with a vested interest in seafarers’ welfare and would like to volunteer as a local Seafarers’ Welfare Ambassador (SWA) please get in touch or request approval by adding the Seafarer Welfare Ambassador role to your user profile on the Port Visitor platform.
